Canada Day    Update by Debbie Macleod

The executive of the SHPOA would like to take this opportunity to extend much deserved thanks to all of those involved in making our Canada Day celebration a success.

We had 112 people join together to hear the flag ceremony presented by George Einarson and his granddaughter Erika and then a rousing rendition of Oh Canada was sung by all in attendance.

Canadian flags, Maple Leaf tattoos and a ticket for a door prize were distributed by Verna Livingston as we entered.  Special thanks to our door prize donors Pat Einarson, Marg Kendel, Nadia Evans and the association.

Also thanks to Barb Veldink and Don Fast who sat at the door to welcome and register everyone.

And a very special thank you to our organizers Verna and Dave Livingston. who once again delivered a fabulous event.   And no event would be a success without all the people who helped to cook/serve the "Canadian Lunch" of hot dogs and soft drinks.  The volunteers included Marg Kendel, Nadia and Bill Evans, Heather Curry, Barb and Fred Veldink, Rose and Russ Fay, Brad Rempel.  A special thanks to Rita Kerr who I am told is our traditional cake cutter.

 Great Job Everyone!

Corn Roast    Update by Debbie Macleod

NEWS UPDATE AUGUST 18, 2013 – CORN ROAST

As the Corn Roast of 2013 passes into history we would like to thank the many volunteers who made this event a great success. Marg Kendall, Heather Curry, Barb and Fred Veldink, Rita and Tom Kerr, Russ and Rose Fay, Marilyn McDougall, Marianne and David Ranson and Erika Day.

We'd also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our Social Committee Chairs, Dave and Verna Livingstone. They are handing over the reins but will still be around as volunteers and advisors.  Thanks again for all the work and support over the years.

There were approximately 90 people in attendance with more children participating than the past few years.

The face painting on some of the children looked spectacular – many thanks to the artist for her help.

Looking forward to more fun & games next year.
